The Unobits platform
Search
What global search finds, which areas it covers, why two people can get different results for the same words, and how the command palette differs.
On this page
Global search finds records across Unobits — contacts, conversations, projects, invoices, items, campaigns and more — from one box. It only ever shows what you are allowed to open.
Open search#
- Press / anywhere outside a text field, or Alt+Shift+F.
- Or select the search box in the app header.
Type a few words. Search matches the start of each word you type, so acme inv finds Acme invoices. Every word you type must match, so adding words narrows the results.
What search covers#
| Area | What you can find |
|---|---|
| CRM | People, companies and opportunities — by name, email, phone (with or without formatting), job title, domain, website, industry and company |
| Messages in the mailboxes you have connected | |
| Inbox | Conversations and items in your Inbox |
| Chat | Messages in conversations you are part of |
| Socials | Social conversations |
| Projects | Projects you are a member of, or that are public to the organization |
| Finance | Invoices and other finance records |
| Inventory | Items |
| Reach | Campaigns |
| Office | Notes in Notebooks |
| Digital Twin | Twin records |
| Web Elements | Your web properties |
Why two people get different results#
Search checks the same permissions as the modules themselves. A result appears only if you could open it:
- Module permissions. CRM, Finance, Reach, Socials, Twin and Web Elements results need that module's View permission. Someone without View Finances never sees an invoice in search.
- Record visibility. Projects appear only to their members unless they are public to the organization. Email appears only to the person whose mailbox it is.
So if a colleague finds something you cannot, the answer is almost always access — see How access works.
What search does not find (yet)#
- Calendar events — use the search in Calendar → Events, which searches titles, locations, descriptions and organisers.
- Files by name — use the search in Files.
- Stages, tags and lifecycle values in CRM. These are your workspace's own words and can be renamed at any time, so they are filters on the CRM lists rather than search terms.
Search versus the command palette#
The command palette (Alt+Shift+K) is for going places and doing things — jump to a module, open a page, run an action. Search is for finding records. If you know where you want to go, use the palette; if you know what you are looking for, use search.
