Reports and the books

Profit and loss, balance sheet, aging, budgets; and the journal, ledger, chart of accounts, trial balance, periods and fixed assets underneath.

Updated 24 September 2026

Finance → Reports turns the ledger into statements. Beneath them, Books is the double-entry ledger itself: journals, accounts, trial balance, periods and fixed assets.

Reports#

ReportWhat it shows
Profit and lossWhat you earned and what you spent, for this month, this quarter, this year or the last 12 months
Balance sheetWhat you have, what you owe, and what is yours
Cash owed to youAged receivables — how much each customer owes and how late
Cash you oweAged payables — how much you owe each vendor and when
BudgetsYour budgets against what was actually spent and committed

Reports download as CSV.

Budgets#

Create a budget for a period, then set how much each account may take in this period. The budget shows, per line, what has been spent, what is committed on orders, and what is free. A budget is Not started before its period and Running during it.

Books#

Open Books from Reports.

PageWhat it is for
JournalEvery posted entry. Find by reference or note. New journal entry posts a manual entry: a date, a reason and balanced debit and credit lines.
LedgerMovement and balance per account
Chart of accountsYour accounts by kind — what you have, what you owe, what is yours, what you earn and what you spend on — with codes and balances. New account adds one.
Trial balanceEvery account's balance; debits and credits must agree
PeriodsDefine a period and close it. A closed period refuses any posting dated inside it.
Fixed assetsThings you own that last — what it is, cost, bought on and worth at the end — with how much is worn so far and what it is worth now

Balances show with their normal sign — revenue, liabilities and equity are not shown as negatives.

Good habits#

  • Close each period after you reconcile it, so nothing can be posted into it by accident. See Close the month in Finance.
  • Use journal entries for corrections. Posted invoices and bills cannot be voided yet; a correcting journal is the way to fix a mistake.
  • Keep the base currency. It is fixed once anything is posted.
