Getting started with Unobits
Invite your team
Add people to the organization, choose the role and access each one starts with, and put them into groups.
On this page
Bring teammates into your organization from the admin console. Each person gets a role and, optionally, a preset and groups that decide what they can open on their first day.
Add a person#
Open Admin → People (
/admin/people).Choose Invite person.
Enter their name and email.
Choose a base role — Admin, Manager or Member. (Owner is the person who created the organization.) See what each role can do.
Optionally choose a preset such as Accountant, Designer or Manager. A preset adds the permissions that job usually needs on top of the role.
Optionally add them to one or more groups.
Set a temporary password and choose whether to email the sign-in details. The email contains their address, the temporary password and the sign-in link.
Save. They can sign in straight away and should change the password when they do.
Choose starting access deliberately#
The quickest way to get access right is to start narrow and grant more when someone needs it:
| Person | Good starting point |
|---|---|
| Co-founder or operations lead who administers the workspace | Admin role, plus owner-sensitive grants you decide on (for example Manage Finances) |
| Team lead who needs to see across the business | Manager role |
| Accountant or bookkeeper | Member role with the Accountant preset |
| Designer or web person | Member role with the Designer preset |
| Everyone else | Member role, then add the modules they work in |
Some permissions — managing finances, approving bills and expenses, managing shared integrations, deleting users — are owner-sensitive: no role includes them, and only the Owner can grant them. This is deliberate. See Roles and permissions.
Groups#
Groups are how you organize people under the organization — by team, site, or function. Create them in Admin → People → Groups, add members, and describe what each group is for. Groups replace the older idea of departments, which Unobits no longer uses.
Outsiders are not teammates#
Clients, contractors who only need to see their own work, and guests do not need a seat. Give them a portal instead — see Portals and Members, contacts and portal users.
