Count the handovers, not the features
Every tool wins a feature list. Ask instead how many times a piece of information gets re-entered between the sale and the invoice. That number is what you actually pay for.
Check what happens to outsiders
Clients, contractors and accountants need access to something. If they each need a paid seat, the price you were quoted is not the price you will pay.
Ask what is behind the next tier
Suites are usually priced so the thing you will need in month three sits one plan above the one you bought. Find that boundary before you commit, not after.
Try to leave before you arrive
Export your data on day one, from whichever tool you are evaluating. If that is hard now, it will be much worse in two years with everything in it.
